TSBE is proud to be undertaking the region’s third Surat Basin Energy Awards to celebrate the people, business, and industry that have shaped energy production in Toowoomba and the Surat Basin, concluding with a Black Tie event on Thursday 21 August 2025 in Dalby. The 2025 Surat Basin Energy Awards is brought to you by Shell QGC.
Energy production in the Toowoomba and Surat Basin, from natural gas, coal and renewable projects, makes a major contribution to the National Electricity Market. The region continues to move towards becoming the ‘energy capital’ of Australia, it is important for industry and business to come together to recognise the diversity of energy production, and to continue driving the future of energy in the Toowoomba and Surat Basin region.
This unique event will highlight traditional and emerging industries, celebrate individual and business ambassadors and showcase success stories and key contributors who have paved the way in the energy sector.

Keynote speaker - Rick Wilkinson, Chief Executive Officer, EnergyQuest
Rick Wilkinson has more than 36 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. He has held senior positions in the areas of commercial negotiation, LNG contracting, gas wholesaling and retailing, as well as technical field engineering. He joined EnergyQuest in 2016.
Rick held various roles with Santos over 14 years, including President GLNG and Queensland where he oversaw the initiation, and definition for final investment of the A$16+ Billion CSG to LNG project, and Vice-President Commercial of Santos.
He has been an Associate with management consultants, McKinsey & Co., and held managerial and engineering positions with Schlumberger in Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Sudan and the USA.
Master of Ceremonies - Paul McDermott
Paul McDermott has been at the forefront of the Australian entertainment industry since the Doug Anthony All Stars stormed to national and international success in the 1980s. Since then this immensely popular entertainer and artist has proven to be one of the most versatile in Australian history.
Paul fronted the iconic Good News Week TV program in the 1990s and 2000s. This exciting favourite was a huge hit, grabbing around a million viewers a week and topping the list in younger demographics.
Most recently he hosted popular quiz program “Think Tank” (ABCTV). In the comedy arena he has performed sell out Festival seasons at Melbourne, Adelaide, Montreal and Edinburrgh to both public and critical acclaim.
