LNP Leader Tim Nicholls lays out LNP policy for Darling Downs

LNP Leader Tim Nicholls has set out his party’s position for the Toowoomba and Surat Basin region ahead of a Political Leader Series this month.

Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise (TSBE) has invited state leaders to the region to share their vision with residents and businesses ahead of the Queensland election.

LNP leader Tim Nicholls said the party had supported TSBE and its aims and objective since it was formed.

“We have been supporting the Toowoomba and Surat Basin areas with our elected representatives for more than 50 years,” Mr Nicholls said.

“Our strong record of delivery includes the $1.6 billion Toowoomba Second Range Crossing, the $50 million Toowoomba Ring Road project, Highfields School, investment in the Warrego Highway, our 30-year agriculture plan and our $495 million Royalties for the Regions program.”

“And it was also then Opposition Leader Jeff Seeney whose political courage ensured the CSG industry was established in Queensland through bipartisan support.

Mr Nicholls said his party supported the expansion of New Hope Group’s New Acland mine.

“We are the only party that fully supports New Acland mine – highlighted by our attempts to amend Labor’s laws requiring a duplicative assessment process for New Acland’s stage 3 expansion,” he said.

“We see the Surat becoming a resources hub of excellence under our six key drivers of the Queensland economy.

“As well as resources, the drivers include services – creating opportunities for engineering and environmental scientists."

The Political Leaders Series has been designed for business people and the wider community to understand how party policies could affect their business.

TSBE executive chairman Shane Charles said the company worked with the major parties to advocate for infrastructure, development and priority projects.

“TSBE is tasked with economic development for the region, and has seen billions of dollars spent and allocated here,” Mr Charles said.

“We know Toowoomba and the Surat Basin region has a myriad of opportunities. We want to know in the lead-up to the state election, what our major parties will do for our region and what their vision is.”

Mr Nicholls will speak at the first session, on May 31.

One Nation state party leader Steve Dickson and Queensland Senator Pauline Hanson will speak at the second session, June 7.

Dr Anthony Lynham, Minister for State Development and Minister for Natural Resources and Mines in the Palaszczuk State Labor Government, will speak at the third session, June 27.

TSBE is providing the opportunity for attendees to contribute to the list of questions being asked at each of the events. These questions can be posed during the booking process.

TSBE diamond member IOR Petroleum is the series sponsor.

TSBE members can book individual session tickets for $125, or $350 for the all three sessions. TSBE non-members can book individual sessions from $165, or $450 for the three sessions. The cost includes a three-course plated lunch.

Venues will be announced closer to the date.
