CSG Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Phase Opportunity

The Operations and Maintenance (O&M) phase for a project involves ongoing work over a long period of time – until project close. Three currently sanctioned projects exist in the Surat Basin, with each having a project life of up to 20 years due to offtake agreements of the sold gas. Project life is however, dependent on existing tenements for existing infrastructure, which can extend a project’s life.

Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Contracts

Contracts for the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) phase of projects will be dealt out to large high value firms for a long term period. Supply chain businesses can work with these O&M contractors who run or maintain the plants by providing certain products and services to assist them with their operations.

TSBE has been advised that many of the larger companies are largely self-sufficient for work of a specialised technical nature. Often, their divisions can provide in-house comprehensive mechanical and electrical services to manage and maintain their facilities and equipment. This operational segment can also offer consultancy services focusing on plant optimisation and asset management.

Current examples of contracts in the O&M phase of Surat Basin gas projects include Veolia Water, Transfield Services, GE Oil & Gas and Siemens.

Engagement Process

In time, strong opportunities will also present for trade-based businesses (servicing/call-outs/shutdown assistance/technical assistance/part replacement) and metal fabricators (facility repair/maintenance/small extensions). Opportunities will also present for pipeline maintenance, require some land easement, access management – weed, pest, regrowth controlling.

TSBE can offer support and assistance to suppliers looking to compete for work in coal seam gas (CSG) projects. To better understand how your business can put its best foot forward when competing for work in the CSG industry please review TSBE’s Guidance for Suppliers Fact Sheet.
