Collaboration creates opportunities for Export Hub

Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise (TSBE) recently hosted an interactive information session about the Southern Queensland Innovation in Export Hub (SQ Export Hub), aimed at providing information for businesses in our local region to harness global opportunities.

The SQ Export Hub, developed and delivered by TSBE, works with businesses to build their skills and know-how to harness domestic and global opportunities, which still exist despite the current health situation.

Launched in 2019, the SQ Export Hub services the Southern Queensland region and is jointly-funded by the Australian Government’s SME Export Hubs grant opportunity, Queensland Government and TSBE in association with growth centre partners NERA & FIAL.

TSBE Export Manager for Food & Agribusiness, Justin Heaven opened the information session, explaining to participants that whilst export may not be easy, there are real opportunities for businesses and relationships to develop into the future.

“The food and agriculture space is in a dynamic time and collaboration is important for success.”

“In this rapidly changing world of exports, now is the time to take advantage of managing change and the opportunities that will come from this,” said Mr Heaven.

TSBE Export Manager for Oil, Gas & Energy Resources, Helen Bates confirmed that whilst the oil and gas sector’s traditional markets may be impacted, Toowoomba is now considered an advanced manufacturing centre.

“The advanced manufacturing status provides international opportunities for companies in this sector at this time,” said Ms Bates.

Also joining the online session was Agribusiness Consultant, Tim Burgess of Bow Creek Agribusiness who has over 20 years’ experience working in the beef supply chain.

His insight into supply chain development was valuable for attendees looking for assistance in Agribusiness at this time.

“Collaboration for SME’s is important to assist with capacity and value-add in the supply chain,” said Mr Burgess.

“You can be the most successful business in the country, but when you work with another business in cross-selling opportunities, there are long-term growth opportunities for both.”

The SQ Export Hub is here to assist businesses in the Southern Queensland region and paired with businesses seeking opportunities, now more than ever is the best time to develop business skills.

The current health situation means that businesses will experiences of a range of issues both internationally and domestically, but the SQ Export Hub encourages anyone interested in export to reach out as they can provide expert assistance.
