Singapore Airlines to touch down in Toowoomba

Singapore Airlines have now committed, with the support of the Federal Government’s International Freight Assistance Mechanism (IFAM) initiative, to commence exporting our local resources directly to Singapore markets.

Toowoomba Wellcamp airport, through General Manager Robert Kasch, have led this exciting expansion, and continue to deliver real growth opportunities for our region.

Starting on Friday 19 June, a Singapore Airlines plane will bring 40 tonne of export capability to a new market in Asia.

TSBE Food Leaders Australia General Manager, Bruce McConnel, said it is exciting to be able to help bring this major airline to our region.

“With the wonderful opportunities currently here in the region for our food and agriculture businesses, this service is adding another significant connection.”

“The service is committed to for a six-week period, with a review to occur after this period to ensure the long term viability of the service ” said Mr McConnel.

This announcement broadens reach opportunities, after the recent announcement of flag carrier of Hong Kong, Cathay Pacific doubling weekly freights out of Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport.

Between the three flights, more than 160 tonnes of produce can be exported out of our region weekly.

Mr McConnel said this increase of Cathy Pacific services, and new Singapore Airlines service comes at a vital time for our regional exporters after supply chain disruptions during COVID-19.

“Our regional exporters are struggling right now to get capacity to continue to deliver our high-quality food into international markets.”

“This commitment is not only a sign of confidence in our region, but also gives our exporters more chance to get their products to the world,” said Mr McConnel.

Exporters interested in the Singapore market are encouraged to get in touch with their freight management contact to understand the opportunities further.

“The opportunity now sits with the regional exporters to make use of the service and ensure its long term sustainability.”

“We urge all exporters to support the expanded services and advocate the service to their freight forwarder,” said Mr McConnel.
