Toowoomba Transport and Logistics Symposium 2017 backed by TRC
Toowoomba’s status as a key transport and logistics centre continues to gain traction with Toowoomba Regional Council’s November meeting yesterday approving Council’s contribution to the running of a national symposium next year.
TRC Infrastructure Services Committee chair Cr Carol Taylor said the proposed March 2017 Toowoomba Transport and Logistics Symposium was intended to follow a similar format to the successful inaugural event in August 2015.
Cr Taylor said it was an opportune time to focus attention on the value and importance of the transport and logistics sectors to the regional economy as well as the wider state and national economies.
“The 2015 event attracted more than 230 attendees and gained national media exposure outlining Toowoomba’s emergence as an important freight hub with links to other industries,” Cr Taylor said.
“Council will follow a similar process to the 2015 symposium by becoming a major partner of the 2017 event, which again is to be hosted by Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise (TSBE).
“The Toowoomba Region is within 24 hours’ drive of more than 85% of the nation’s population which gives the city and region the chance to capitalise on many business opportunities.
“Couple this geographic advantage with comparatively affordable industrial land that is zoned for transport and logistics enterprises and ready for development and our competitiveness really starts to stand out.
“The symposium also offers another forum to detail how the inland rail will contribute to a more integrated transport sector and open up more efficient freight routes for communities along the line.”
Council will contribute $20,000 as a major partner.
