Dear @{aspediacrm-person-firstname}

What a busy month it has been! A highlight for us was the business community’s support for the New Acland Mine stage 3 expansion.  We held a free BBQ at Village Green in Toowoomba and handed over a petition to Pat Weir, Member for Condamine, which had over 1,700 signatures from local business people who support the expansion and are concerned about the 150 jobs that will be lost if the Queensland Government does not give its approval by September 30. Pat will be tabling the petition in Parliament in August. It was great to see so many businesses support this expansion so let’s hope we see some positive action from the Queensland Government before people lose their jobs. A big thank you to Oakey Beef for supplying the meat and of course the Chambers of Commerce for their action and input from their members.

TSBE has been advocating for Toowoomba to receive the same 21-25% discount in payroll tax that other regional areas of Queensland will receive from July 1. The Queensland Government has not classified Toowoomba as “regional” and therefore businesses in our area are not eligible for this discount. TSBE, along with a number of our members, attended the Small Business State Budget 2019-20 Roadshow to put our case forward to the Hon Shannon Fentiman MP, Minister for Employment and Small Business and Minister for Training and Skills Development.  We’ll keep you updated on this issue.

We have also called for the Queensland Government to sign the inter-governmental agreement for Inland Rail to ensure that there is no delay in this vital project. The NSW and Victorian governments signed the agreement with the Federal Government last year but Queensland is yet to sign.

TSBE had a visit from the Hon Angus Taylor, Minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction which was organised and attended by the Hon Dr John McVeigh to discuss the many coal, gas and renewable projects in our region. Minister Taylor holds our region as a model for energy.

This month TSBE Food Leaders Australia hosted Ag in the Asian Century National Export and Innovation Conference in Brisbane with business leaders from around the Asia-Pacific region attending.

It was great to hear Transport Minister Mark Bailey announce the toll prices for the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing. They are reasonable and it is good to have clarity around the pricing.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone at our Enterprise Evening on 1 August which will feature the launch of our SQ Export Hub.

IOR Moves into The Branch

It was great to have IOR Petroleum staff move into The Branch co-working space this month.

IOR are expanding across the region and have also opened a branch in Pittsworth.

They are increasing their presence in the region setting up Toowoomba as their sales hub.

The Branch is an executive serviced office space in the iconic Knights building, where TSBE is also located.

Domestic Gas Deals

The gas market is continuing to evolve with recent agreements bringing new names and businesses into the Surat Basin. Earlier this month Australia Pacific LNG and their joint venture partner Armour Energy were awarded authority to prospect over the 18 square kilometre area south-west of Chinchilla to provide gas. It is near existing gas infrastructure, which will help fast-track gas to Australian manufacturers.

The Santos/Shell joint venture has won the right to explore gas on 1212km2 of land near Chinchilla, and Bridgeport Energy have been awarded rights to 298km
2 near Tara. These developments required fulfilment of existing environmental and Native Title requirements.

In June at our packed Enterprise Evening in Chinchilla we also heard from Jemena on their latest asset purchase from Surat Basin producer Senex. It was great to hear Jemena speak on their East Coast and Surat expansion plans.
