November Enterprise Evening in Chinchilla

Attendees will hear from Southern Cross Care CEO, Jason Eldering on the proposed $35 million landmark partnership for health services for the Western Downs region, while also hearing from CS Energy CEO, Andrew Bills on the recent commitment from the State Government to build Surat’s first demonstration hydrogen project. Andrew will be providing an update on plans for this hydrogen facility at Kogan, together with CS Energy's plans for a regional future energy hub. 

Commercial production of hydrogen might be the next opportunity for the growing diversity of energy production in the Surat Basin. As we move toward the addition of further renewable energy production, the commercial establishment of next-generation hydrogen production will help ensure we maintain our regions’ title of Energy Capital of Queensland….maybe even Australia!

There is both global and domestic demand for hydrogen, which together with emissions targets, are driving the development of hydrogen projects. Our region is strategically located to embrace hydrogen development to accelerate the reduction in our carbon footprint and cost base of energy.

Southern Cross Care is undertaking a $35 million redevelopment of the Illoura Residential Aged Care Facility in Chinchilla that will offer opportunities in the construction supply chain. Specialised Property Consulting has been appointed as the Project Manager on the redevelopment. The project will see the construction of a brand new 81-bed residential wing replacing the existing 66-bed residential wing which will be demolished at completion to make way for new community and education facilities.

With its singular mission to provide the highest quality care to the most vulnerable, Southern Cross Care Queensland has the ability to bring a new and improved level of aged and community care to the residents of Western Downs, and we look forward to hearing more on the night. Southern Cross Care Queensland has assumed management of Tarcoola Aged Care from Western Downs Regional Council (WDRC) earlier this year. The facility provides aged care accommodation for up to 33 residents and was previously facing closure.

WDRC has also approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) as the basis upon which contracts can be negotiated for the possible transfer of ownership of all its aged and community care facilities and services to Southern Cross Care Queensland in 2022 including the Carinya Residential Aged Care Facility in Miles and the Community Home Care Services.

WDRC has been working hard for many years to secure a specialist provider to grow and improve health services in the Western Downs region.
