Arrow's Surat Gas Project Commitment

With the announcement of Arrow 's $10 Billion Surat Gas Project comes great optimism for jobs in the region and this news couldn’t come at a better time.

The first phase of Arrow’s Surat Gas Project development, with construction beginning this year, includes more than 600 wells and will deliver first gas in 2021.

Ali Davenport, TSBE CEO said, “I am thrilled to learn that Arrow Energy have this morning sanctioned commencement of the first phase of its Surat Gas Project (SGP), with construction set to begin this year.”

“This is positive news, especially with so much disruption caused by COVID-19, and will generate opportunities and revenue for the Western Downs region.”

“The project will initially require 200 construction roles, which will then lead to 800 roles, meaning this project will generate money right throughout the economy.”

“Construction jobs have many beneficiaries with workers spending money locally on restaurants, accommodation, entertainment venues and retail.”

“There will also be 200 ongoing jobs over the anticipated 27 year life span of the SGP.”

“TSBE will work with Arrow Energy to ensure local contractors are utilised as much as possible. Arrow have been long term members of TSBE, joining within 12 months of TSBE’s inception in 2011.  They are an excellent company to deal with and support the local community”

“Other beneficiaries from SGP will be the agricultural sector who will be able to utilise the filtered wastewater, which means yields will be higher for our region’s producers.”

“Arrow Energy have been operating in the Surat Basin since 2001 and have more than 80% of their workforce living and working locally.”

“They have invested heavily in the community through their Brighter Futures investment fund and sponsor the Heart of Australia truck which brings specialists such as cardiologists to rural communities, which is improving the health outcomes and saving lives in regional areas of Queensland.”

“This project is another confirmation of how important the energy sector is to our regional economy.”

“The Western Downs is known as the Energy Capital of Queensland and is an area with a large number of renewable projects as well as natural gas and coal and this project expands the capacity of energy production in the region.”

“This news is a welcome relief for our region and shows the commitment of Arrow Energy to the Surat Basin.”
