Innovative business finds success in fish farming

A unique Chinchilla business is emerging as the most sustainable aquaculture enterprise in the country.

Plans to first develop the Condabilla Fish Farm were started in 1999 by former owners Rob and Tamara Bartley, who grew their vision from the ground up.

In May 2019, the farm was sold to Burradoo Enterprises, but the goal has remained of producing the highest quality Murray Cod in Australia.

Condabilla Fish Farm General Manager Mark Oliver said you won’t find another farm like Condabilla in the country.

“We’re committed to growing the fish in a truly sustainable environment that releases zero nutrients into the surrounding ecosystem,” he said.

Attendees of Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise’s Protein 2021 Conference will have the opportunity to taste the cod during a site tour of Condabilla Fish Farm.

TSBE Food Leaders Australia General Manager, Bruce McConnel said the company’s success is a testament to their vision and the previous owner’s vision of how the strength of this business can run.

“It’ll be exciting to showcase Condabilla Fish to everyone because it’s an example of how innovation and new industries can come into our region and use our natural resources to grow our economy.”

“And it truly is amazing cod,” said Mr McConnel.

Mr Oliver said a typical Condabilla Premium Murray Cod has a mild flavour profile.

“It’s coupled with a medium flesh texture which allows for an extremely versatile range of meal options,” he said.

Protein 2021 will be held on February 24 – 25 with tickets available online: www.tsbe.com.au/events/protein-2021-conference
