About Us

The Gowrie-Oakey creek is a well-developed and productive agricultural area that has the potential to be one the most productive food bowls in Qld and the country. With good access to local markets, exports, as well as Asia, we are situated in a box seat in terms of growing the wealth of this region.

Water security is a major focus of GOCIA and if it remains reliable, agricultural businesses can continue to support local business, employ skilled staff, diversify, and grow higher value crop types or permanent agricultural plantings. This would support the local region and further value the investment made in this system many years ago. Agriculture is here to stay and has been a critical part of Toowoomba Regional Council for generations. The system is very fortunate to be able to have a baseflow contribution from the Wetalla wastewater plant that is able to provide security to many farming businesses.

The Gowrie-Oakey Creek is approximately 83km long and runs into the Condamine River and is a pillar in local Agricultural production and supplies many feedlots in the region as well as hay and fodder production, vegetables, cotton and grain crops which are either processed locally or supplied into local trade.

The Gowrie-Oakey Creek and it's members are focused on water security and benefits of which this provides back to the local region.
