Dial Before You Dig (Qld) Ltd

Dial Before You Dig Queensland is a not-for-profit association of member companies that own or manage underground services. It was established in 1997 to provide a free one-stop referral service in the interest of greater public safety and the reduction of damage to electrical and communication cables, water pipes, gas lines, oil pipes, industrial pipelines, drains and sewers.

Over the past 22 years, the service has evolved and in 2017 our vision was reworked to “Safer Communities Through Protected Networks” and our mission acknowledging “We will innovate to provide services to ensure the location of network infrastructure”.

Achieving our vision is crucial for the future success of our organisation. We regard the ability to be innovative and dynamic is pivotal in maximising the benefits for our consumers and all our stakeholders throughout Australia. We recognise the high importance of not only protecting our members valuable networks but also people’s lives.

In recent years we have recognised lodging an enquiry into DBYD is paramount however, in driving the 5P’s of safe excavation we are now delivering education to the excavation community as a whole on an end to end solution. Carrying out excavation activities must encourage the engagement of a competent locator i.e. DBYD certified locator and the industry must adopt the Australian Standard (AS5488) which is the classification of subsurface utility information.
