Media Release: Investing in Toowoomba

Toowoomba is the third most diverse economy in Australia which means that investors and businesses can reach their long term financial goals and minimise risk due to the broad spectrum of economic sectors.

It is perfectly positioned for long-term prosperity, especially with large projects supporting logistics infrastructure including the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing, Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport and the upcoming Inland Rail.

Located an hour and a half from Queensland’s capital city Brisbane, and at the intersection of four major highways, Toowoomba is currently experiencing a major injection of infrastructure developments, economic activity and international business interest.

Toowoomba’s economy prospers off the back of a number of thriving sectors and industries that include gas and resources, agriculture, construction, manufacturing, health, education and professional services.

Toowoomba remains the commercial and economic service hub for South West Queensland and northern New South Wales, and is well positioned as the provincial capital to the Darling Downs and gateway to the Surat Basin.

No other region can offer the vibrancy, investment potential and lifestyle benefits that the Toowoomba and surrounding regions boast.

Unrivalled road, rail and air connectivity is now propelling the region to vast opportunities.

With all this infrastructure it is the perfect time for developers interested in relocation to Toowoomba to gain benefits from these projects.

The region has seen increased interest from business such as the Seaways Group, Mainfreight, and Qantas keen to take advantage of these opportunities.

There are numerous business cases from national and international companies investigating the competitive advantage the region brings.

The Seaway Group have brought their knowledge and expertise of regional rail and logistics to Toowoomba and provide solutions for customers in the Darling Downs and other areas of Western Queensland.

This is a long term project for the company and they believe in the success of the region.

Seaway’s COO, Paul Szumowski stated that Toowoomba is not a new location to the Group, and this development will create over 50 jobs for the local community, but just as importantly provide exporters and importers a more efficient mode of transport to access their overseas markets.

Toowoomba has strong strategic advantages for businesses in terms of development costs, land acquisition costs, outgoings and transport operational costs.  Toowoomba also offers plentiful green-field industrial land and is positioned as a trade gateway for the region.

It is well-positioned to assist businesses to capitalise on a range of freight options from the region to connect nationally and internationally.

The Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport offers carriers options to connect to international markets on the weekly Cathay Pacific cargo flight direct to Hong Kong.

Recently, Toowoomba based, international precision manufacturing company, RME utilised this flight to transport a 35 tonne specialised mining equipment direct to New Mexico via Hong Kong.

The ability to utilise Queensland’s only wide body aircraft, suited for oversized equipment, ensures direct transport efficiency and also construction timesaving.

Toowoomba based business, Trackspares, is an international spare parts distributor for large mining and agricultural equipment servicing International clients from Toowoomba.

They were able to take advantage of this new logistical infrastructure and cost efficiency when they chartered a private cargo plane to transport specialised undercarriage equipment direct to clients in record turnaround times.

Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise (TSBE) CEO, Ali Davenport said, “locating your business in Toowoomba is highly competitive with other major national hubs – and it has a rare and strong strategic location with the converging of road, rail and air transport.”

“This advantage will grow, as these large projects like Inland Rail will be completed in coming years and encourages businesses to get in early on the opportunity.”

Businesses who relocate to Toowoomba will not only save on the cost of land but they will also be strategically located to service industry to the west whilst accessing trade routes to the east.
